Who is the audience?

I've been asked by a few people: who is the audience of the J.A.Y. vs. The World series?

In short, I have categorized the series as Young Adult, but they could easily be geared toward those slightly younger and much older.

As humorous action-adventure stories, I believe they appeal to a wide range, say from age 8 or 10 and up. That being said, some 10-year-olds might find some of the vocabulary to be on the more challenging side.. When I was reading Book One to a "test audience," they were encouraged to ask questions and give feedback. Some of those questions had to do with certain vocabulary terms (the word "torso" stands out in my memory) but for the most part, they seemed to understand the action of the story quite well.

That having been said, I have resisted the inclination to pander to any given audience. There are aspects of the narrative that could go "over the head" of certain members of the younger audience but that will appeal to an older audience.

So, while the books are categorized as "YA" (Young Adult), I believe the audience is much wider than that. Oh, and in case you were wondering, the series steers clear of the whole "sexualize everything" that seems to pervade much of modern culture. These are adventure stories, not what the modern publishing industry would term "romance." If you read this series, prepare for action, prepare for danger, prepare for good vs. evil ... and some humor along the way.
